View of Charlie Woodford's tool box the scale of which reflects the nature of his occupation being more than adequate to house a sledge hammer. All the tools were located in a position where their outline was picked out in white. This enabled the fitter to see immediately if a tool had been left out. Fitters were initially responsible for their own tools and even when the railways became responsible each fitter would still look after the tools as if they were their own. The outline in white of the large disc and handle indicates that this 'engine must not be moved' sign is in use, perhaps on the ex-LNWR 4-6-0 to the left of the tool box.
