LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington

Ex-LMS 0-6-0 4F No 44118, with sliding cover to the tender, is seen standing in the approach roads in Nuneaton shed. The sliding covers on the tenders were often associated with the locomotives used on Snow Ploughs and provided the crew with a degree of protection in running tender first when coupled tender to tender with another locomotive. Therefore this locomotive must have been allocated to a northern shed prior to the photograph. Built at Crewe works in June 1925 No 44118 remained in service until May 1965 when it was withdrawn from Westinghouses shed to be scrapped during August 1965 by Drapers Ltd of Hull.
