Ex-LMS 2-6-0 'Hughes Crab' No 42941 is seen in another view whilst shunting mineral wagons at the throat of Nuneaton's up marshalling yard. Designed by George Hughes and built at the ex-L&YR works at Horwich and the ex-LNWR works at Crewe, they actually appeared after Hughes had retired and been replaced by Henry Fowler. This is the reason the narrow Fowler tender is seen behind a wide L&YR cab, the gap being particularly noticeable in views of the locomotive take from the rear perspective.

The nickname 'Hughes Crab' was derived from the locomotive's huge cylinders which were at an angle in order to clear the loading gauge. George Hughes, the LMS's first CME, was not a fan of high pressure boilers because of their high maintenance costs and therefore the cylinders needed to be much larger to provide the output with boilers pressed to 180 lbs.
