Close up of image 'lnwrml2228' showing Monument Lane's extra tall signal cabin on the left and on the overbridge the front elevation of the station building. The signal cabin was a standard LNWR design except that it has been elevated by approximately thirty feet above the machine room. Outside the glazed area was a cantilevered walkway allowing the signalmen to clean the windows, a job that was clearly important as the smoke and dust would soon soot up the glass. The station was accessed by passengers arriving by road or foot via a booking office located at road level and then descended to the island platform to the waiting rooms.
