View of ex-MR 2F 0-6-0 No 58178 is seen shunting in Monument Lane New Wharf sidings on Tuesday 27th July 1954. The Wharf which was nicknamed the 'Maltings' held only 89 wagons but also provided access to the private sidings of S Thompson & Sons, brewers. The train from which the photograph was taken has just emerged from New Street station's north tunnel whilst the former Midland locomotive was one of several working on the 'Western Division of the now defunct LMS. It carried the shed plate '3E' being allocated to Monument Lane shed which was located immediately to the right of the tunnel seen in this view.
