This configuration of placing the locomotive in the centre of the train would not have been too popular with the crew, particular the fireman, as they would have been working separately for most of the day. The classic motor train configuration of the locomotive at the end of a two-coach train would have meant the crew would have been working together for at least half of the trips worked. Built at Crewe in June 1893, No 6653 remained in service until May 1947 when it was withdrawn from Bushbury shed to be scrapped by Crewe works shortly afterwards.
