View looking towards Coventry showing the signal cabin which stood mid-way between the up and down connections a little to the north of the goods yard circa 1957-8. Of note is the unusual configuration of the home starter signal and how it has been suspended below the main supporting cantilevered arm. This was due to the farm occupation bridge at the Coventry end of the station (see image 'lnwrhia689a') obstructing the visibility of up traffic. The signal therefore needed to be low enough to be seen under the bridge whilst the narrowness of the bridge compelled it to be projecting as far out as was possible without fouling the line. The lower 'beam' seen below is in fact the walkway required to allow the signalman access to light and refill the lamp.
