A pair of LMS 4P 4-4-0 Compounds No 1106 and No 1163 are seen at the head of a long up Birmingham to Euston express service. Built by Derby works in October 1925 No 1106 remained in service until it was withdrawn in July 1958 from Green Ayre shed in Lancaster to be initially stored at Crewe from February 1959 until August 1959 when it was scrapped by P&W McLellan of Langloan. No 1163 was built by the North British Locomotive Company in September 1925 and remained in service until November 1958 when it was withdrawn from Manningham shed, Bradford, for scrapping in June 1959 by TW Ward Ltd of Killamarsh. It was however stored twice in the latter years at Trafford Park shed in September 1956 and Deadmans Lane shed in May 1959.
