Whilst Coundon Road Wharf was the prime source of coal for Coventry, Foleshill yard also provided coal merchants to the north of the city centre with facilities. The wagon on the left is a seven-plank wagon built for the LMS or Private Owner before 1948 whilst the wagon on the right was its British Railways built steel equivalent. Many thousands were built in the 1950s but unfortunately this coincided with the rapid decline in goods traffic meaning that many steel wagons were cut up for scrap long before their due date.
