Looking towards Coundon Road which in this view lay behind the Coal Wharf whilst Coundon Road Station Signal Box is on the left. According to Preston Hendry and Powell Hendry in Volume One of their book An Historical Survey of LMS Stations the coal wharf was quite large having a capacity of approximately 330 wagons in the eleven sidings. The track in the centre foreground led to sidings eight to eleven. The largest coal merchant on the site was Moreton with one 'stacking plot' being 940 square feet whilst also renting plots 22, 23, 24 and 25. The two other coal merchants who were joint second largest were the Cooperative Society and Brentnall & Cleland both with 800 square foot plots of 'stacking ground'. Direct access to the main line was via siding running parallel to the Nuneaton to Coventry branch which was also equipped with a wagon weighbridge. Access to the sidings within the yard was via a ground frame fitted with a gong when released by the signal box.
