View of horse-drawn vehicles bringing a delivery of bicycles
to Warwick Road goods yard for dispatching to all over the UK circa 1899. The
bicycle's light weight meant it only required a basic frame to be provided to
protect them from damage in transit. One can only guess what today's Health and
Safety would say if they saw loads like this on today's roads. Coventry was the
home of the bicycle at the turn of the century when John Starley invented the
'safety' bike resulted in a massive explosion in sales. Bicycles were
dispatched both by goods train and brake vans on passenger trains.
