BR built 2-6-0 2MT No 46445 is seen hauling a train of vans
as it approaches the up home signals controlled by Coventry No 2 Signal Cabin
(with 'all off for the up main) on 3rd September 1960. Built in February 1950
by Crewe works, this ex-LMS design by George Ivatt was commonly known to
enthusiasts as a Mickey Mouse. The locomotive had a very short working
life being withdrawn in July 1966 from 2E Saltley shed. The largest of
Coventry's goods warehouses can be seen on the left of the photograph whilst
the disused cattle dock seen to the left of the signal gantry. The
reconstruction work is seen to be gathering pace, and beside the wagons in the
down sidings on the right, a new retaining wall is being built to allow the
widening of this area to four running lines. The siding to the left of the
wagons would after rebuilding become the up and down slow line to Platform
4.
