Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT No 45345 passes Coventry No 3 Signal Cabin with an excursion service from Blackpool on 3rd September 1960. Built as LMS No 5345 by Armstrong Whitworth in April 1937 it was renumbered by British Railways in November 1948 which it retained until June 1968 when it was withdrawn from 10D Lockstock Hall shed. In the distance, just discernible, is Coventry No 4 Signal Cabin (located on the curve of the Nuneaton branch) which was responsible for the connections at the main throat of the goods yard. Since space for stabling coaching sets between their turns of duty was in short supply, it was not unusual for one of the 'Push-Pull' motor train sets to lay-over in the sidings here. The Blackpool special was an extra service and to avoid Birmingham had come via the Trent Valley lines and Nuneaton, to arrive in Coventry. The asbestos-clad building behind No 3 Signal Cabin was the 'car loading stage', hence the rake of CCT's (Covered Carriage Trucks} in the adjacent siding.
