A 1950s view of the eastern approach to Coventry station with the branchline to Leamington leading off to the right. This photograph, taken through a hole in the ironwork of the Stoney Road bridge, shows that the awning covering the up platform had been reduced in length following bomb damage which occurred in November 1940. The original uprights are being used as supports for the station lamps which have by now been converted to electric lighting. The full scissors crossover on the down side was not laid in until 1916 (the 'branch to main' part is notably absent in the photograph of the two LNWR tank locomotives see in image 'lnwrcov4360.htm') when it was added as part of the works in connection with the doubling of the Leamington line as far as Gibbet Hill. The proximity of the sharply-curved junction with the Leamington branch severely limited the options for recasting the layout here. The engine shed can be seen behind Coventry No 1 Signal Cabin.
