View of Coventry No 1 Signal Cabin located in the 'V' of the
Leamington branch junction to aid good sighting all round circa 1952. On the
face of it, a down passenger train had been halted to allow a Leamington-bound
freight to cross ahead of it, although it must have arrived first (the
signalman could not have accepted it from the next Signal Cabin back at Whitley
Wharf with the road set across the junction). The Class C headcode on the
ex-LMS locomotive informs us that the train was an Empty Carriage Stock (ECS)
working which could take a low priority. The balance weights on the bracket
home signal, at which the train was standing, reveal that the signalman at
Coventry No 2 Signal Cabin had already accepted the train and pulled off for it
- the signal was being held at danger by the signalman at No 1 Cabin until the
freight was well clear of the junction.
