Viewed from the mainline this close up of image 'lnwrcov229' shows the side of Coventry No 1 Goods shed and its midway access point and one of the loading bays circa 1961. The long goods shed had an internal single rail laid to the outside wall with a platform to the remaining floor area. To provide a degree of flexibility in shunting wagons both in to and out of the shed a side entrance was provided accessed by two wagon turntables, one inner the outside (see image 'layout_of_goods_yard_b'). It is thought that the lean-to accommodate a chute from the first floor for transhipping goods into open wagons. The length of the lean-to being sufficient to accommodate a standard 9 or 10 foot wagon (the distance between the two axles).
