Close up of image 'lnwrcll110' showing the unidentified LNWR 4-4-0 George Fifth class locomotive as it passes over the junction with the loop line. Withdrawals of the class started in 1935 and by 1939 only nine locomotives remained whilst by 1948 at the birth of British Railways only three locomotives remained in existence. They survived because of the serious shortage of locomotive power during the Second World War. The three survivors were all withdrawn before the first year of British Railways could be celebrated with No 25321 being withdrawn in February 1948 whilst No 25350 and No 25373 - which were allocated the BR numbers No 58011 and No 58012 in March 1948 but never carried them - were both withdrawn in May 1948.
