Close up of image 'lnwrbw536' showing the Coventry end of Brandon & Wolston station's up platform and the mandatory row of fire buckets. On the left a buffer stop can just been seen which was located at the end of the siding which ran from the station back to and through the goods shed as seen in image 'lnwrbw2826'. The ladder would have been used by station staff to light and extinguish the oil lamps which lit the station at night. Normally the job of the most junior member of staff whose duties included filling up the reservoir, trimming the wicks and lighting and extinguishing all lamps on both platforms. The oil lamps used on signals were maintained on a similar basis by someone from the signalling department allocated to several sections (blocks) along the line.
