Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str429

Looking from the other direction towards the entrance to the 'Midland' portion of New Street station with the gated entrance to the passenger footbridge on the left

Looking from the other direction towards the entrance with the gated entrance to the passenger footbridge on the left. The poster on the left is advertising a twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) service to London for a fare of 23 shillings and threepence (£1.15). It was obviously a popular service with Brummies with the train departing at 7:30 am and returning at 8:30 pm.30pm. Both days are matinee days for London's theatres so it would seem that this was one of the major reason's for the excursion's success. The bus stop was not for passengers to board at this point as the sign states 'Buses stop here to unload only'. Inside the pedestrian entrance the steps immediately commence to climb up to the 'overbridge', as the footbridge is described, with an array of advertising on either side including the ubiquitous Brylcream advert. The two Newspaper Boards have the same headlines, 'Lighthouse Men in Fire Drama'. 18th March 1954
