New Street station had loading gauges protecting both ends of every road within the confines of the station and the height of the load being carried on the road vehicle is testament as to why this was necessary. Whilst the height of the coaching stock is considerably less that the loading gauge it would appear from this angle that the load on the road vehicle barely fits, if at all, within the permitted restrictions.
