Close up of image 'lnwrbns_str394' showing on the left Platform One's line for through traffic and on the right Platform Two's with the two storage sidings in the centre. As was common in many large stations prior to 1900, stations with long platforms could accommodate two trains simultaneously and as seen above had points to allow one of the trains to depart from behind the train in front via one of the lines in the centre. The signals and crossovers were controlled by No 3 signal cabin positioned above the passenger footbridge. The three-arm signal gantry on the left controlled traffic heading towards the footbridge with the signal on the left controlling traffic travelling alongside the platform. The two other signals had rings on them denoting they applied only to traffic travelling on the second line from the platform with the middle signal controlling access from this line into the platform whilst the signal on the right controlled the line straight ahead.
