Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str3073

View south down Worcester Street from New Street in 1963 including the row of shops at the station’s east end

View south down Worcester Street from New Street in 1963 including the row of shops at the station's east end seen in image 'lnwrbns_str3074'. This photograph dates from just prior to the reconstruction of New Street station which began at the end of 1963. The Rotunda tower is being built on the left, whilst on the immediate right is Lloyd's Bank. On the right hand side of Worcester Street is the row of late 19th century shops known originally as Queen's Buildings (1885 OS) the rear of which formed the backdrop for many of the photographs taken of the eastern end of the LNWR platforms, for example that seen in image 'lnwrbns_str1772'.
