Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1910a

Close up showing an unidentified LMS 2P 4-4-0 standing on the down line leading from the Midland portion of the station

Close up of image 'lnwrbns_str1910' showing an unidentified LMS 2P 4-4-0 standing on the down line leading from the Midland portion of the station. Above the locomotive, the track on the left passing under the brick arch is leading to Platform 3 and the Coffee House Bay whilst the track on its right leads to a short locomotive siding. At the bottom of the picture part of the turntable can be seen with one of the two water columns positioned next to the access road. The other water column was similarly located by the access road on the other side of the turntable. Each of the turntable's eight short sidings had their own ash pit to aid the servicing of the locomotive which minimised the number of light engine movements to either Saltley, Aston or Monument Lane.
