Richard Foster recounts in the third volume of his four volume on the station's history, that there were 4,136 slots in which the times of trains could be displayed. This was part of a concerted effort by the LMS to improve the standard of passenger information available at New Street station. As seen, the left hand side was for Principal Main Line Services whilst the right hand side was for Local Services with both being divided into northbound and southbound services.
