Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1876

A post-war elevated view of of New Street station looking East down Queens Drive with the former LNWR portion now seen roofless on the left

A post-war elevated view of of New Street station looking East down Queens Drive with the former LNWR portion now seen roofless on the left. The difference between this view and that seen in image 'lnwrbhs_str393' is very marked not only because the removal of the original station's train shed reveals the ugly rear elevation of the Queens Hotel (seen on the left) but because the flat canopies on the platforms gives an impression of a station lacking any presence or majesty. The passenger footbridge can be seen crossing above the canopied platforms whilst the advertising hoarding that once projected high above the walls to the bridges are also now gone. Where trams were once evident only buses remain although again every car seen in the photograph was built in England with most being built in the West Midlands.
