View of New Street's newly opened extension showing Platforms 6 on the left and a set of LNWR carriages standing at Platform 5's up platform. The LNWR poster boards on the gable end of the building on Platform 6 and on the right on the Gentlemen's latrine display identical notices with the poster on the right in both cases advertising visiting Southport. On the near face of Platform 5 can be seen a grill providing ventilation to the subway whilst to its left are two stone steps built in to the platform face to aid staff to climb up or down from the track to the platform. Careful examination shows another set of steps on the same platform face under the platform '5' sign. In between the first & second and second & third tracks are two ground signals controlling access from the middle road to either platform.
