View from the original station showing the newly built footbridge over Queens Drive and Platform 7's brick and stucco finished office buildings. Careful examination will show that the office building is one of a pair with the other identical but mirrored design on the other side of the footbridge. The nearest building housed the Midland Booking office facing the camera and the LNWR Booking office on its otherside, both were intended to provide tickets for local destinations. The new New Street facility provided facilities appropriate to a large and important station as seen in other large cities in Great Britain. The canopy was one such facility and was provided to give for the first time substantial covered accommodation for road vehicles to discharge and load their passengers in the dry. Richard Foster states that 'the canopy was supported by bowstring girders the outline of which can be seen through the glass'.
