LNWR 0-6-0T No 3202, originally a Ramsbottom design and now rebuilt by F Webb, is seen performing pilot duties at New Street in 1902. The lack of a cab under the great train shed at New Street may not have been an issue but outside the crew would receive very little protection as the spectacle plate is barely wider than the firebox. Although the locomotive is being employed to move coaching stock it is still equipped with three-link couplings instead of the screw couplings normally found on locomotives used on passenger stock.
