LMS Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_lms501
Ex-LNWR 2F 0-6-0 18in Goods Engine No 8487 is seen standing
in the Stour Valley bay at the head of the 4 08pm New Street to Harbourne
service circa 1934. The Queens Street Hotel windows which cantilevered over the
platform can be seen above and behind the locomotive. Built as LNWR No 544 at
Crewe works in May 1899, No 8487 was renumbered into the duplicate list in
February 1944 to make way for the LMS 8F's ordered by the War Department and
remained in service until November 1950 when it was withdrawn from Crewe North
shed to be scrapped shortly afterwards by Crewe works.
