Ex-LNWR Prince of Wales class No 5672 'Condor' is seen standing at Platform 2 whilst at the head of a Birmingham to Manchester express service circa 1928. Built as LNWR No 867 at Crewe works in January 1916, No 5672 was fitted with outside valve gear as an experiment with engines carrying this modification nicknamed 'Tishy' as the valve gear's action was said to be similar to the running action of a famous racehorse of this name. Renumbered by the LMS as No 5672 in October 1926 it later lost the name 'Condor' in August 1933 and remained unnamed until it was withdrawn in December 1936 to be scrapped by Crewe works.
