LMS Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_lms1950
Midland Railway 1P 2-4-0 No 20002 is seen again paused
alongside No 2 Signal Cabin at the East end of New Street station in front of
Queens Drive bridge on 18th June 1935. The longevity of the life of the
locomotive was due in part to the pressures on operating staff to meet the
demands of supplying troops during the Second World War. As such when it was
retired Stanier was no longer CME of the LMS and the locomotive was refurbished
as Midland Railway No 158A and within five years of retiring it was back at New
Street to celebrate the station's centenary.
