New Street station
Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_br4340
British Railways built 2MT 2-6-2T No 41233 enters New Street
station on a down local from Rugby circa 1957. It was one of several
auto-fitted Ivatt locomotives which worked the Rugby- Leamington-Coventry-New
Street service. Built by Crewe works in October 1948, this Ivatt designed class
was first built under the direction of the LMS but continued in production
after British Railways came into being until their own classes were
commissioned. The locomotive was to remain in service until March 1966 when it
was withdrawn from 83G Templecombe shed on the former Somerset & Dorset
Railway from where it was scrapped by Cohens of Morriston.
