Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No 45741 'Leinster' runs into New Street's platform 3 with an up express to Euston circa 1957. At the time this photograph was taken the locomotive was allocated to 3B Bushbury shed and was a regular on the Wolverhampton to Euston (via Birmingham) expresses. John Turner writes, the bus passing on the road overbridge would be part of the Midland Red fleet, note too the advertisement for Ansells' brewery on top of the bridge to the left of the bus. Built as LMS No 5741 by Crewe works in December 1936, it was renumbered by British Railways in May 1948, the number it carried until February 1964 when it was withdrawn from 12A Kingmoor shed in Carlisle.
