Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP Jubilee Class No 45576 'Bombay' arrives at platform 7 with the up (northbound) 'Devonian' express. Built in September 1934 as LMS No 5576 by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow, the locomotive was renumbered by British Railways in June 1948, the number being carried until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from 41A Darnall shed in Sheffield. At the time this photograph was taken the locomotive was allocated to 41C Millhouses shed in Sheffield. The up 'Devonian' express service ran from Paignton to Bradford's Forster Square, via Bristol Temple Meads, Birmingham, Sheffield and Leeds. The down Devonian service ran in the opposite direction commencing at Bradford's Foster Square and termination at Paignton.
