Ex-Midland Railway 3F 0-6-0 No 43687 is seen standing on a middle through road whilst on pilot duties circa 1957. The headlamp code of one lamp over the left buffer indicates that at this date its on light engine duties. British Railways updated their headlamp codes serval times over the lifetime of the nationalised company. Built as Midland Railway No 3687 by Kitson & Company in June 1901, it was renumbered by British Railways as No 43687 April 1949 which it carried until August 1962 when it was withdrawn from 21A Saltley shed to be scrapped by Cashmores of Great bridge. As seen it was carrying the shed code (21B) of Bournville shed which it would appear to have been allocated for most of its BR working life as it was only transferred to Saltley shed February 1962.
