Ex-LMS 4P 4-4-0 Compound No 40928 stands light engine on the middle road between Platforms 7 and 8 at the West end of the station

Ex-LMS 4P 4-4-0 Compound No 40928 stands light engine on the middle road between Platforms 7 and 8 at the West end of the station on 1st October 1954. In the background standing at the throat of fish sidings an ex-Midland Railway 2P 4-4-0, No 40463 from Bournville shed, can be seen. The Compound No 40928 was built by the Vulcan Foundry Company in May 1927 and was to remain service until March 1958 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed to be scrapped in March 1958 by Derby works. The ex-Midland Railway 4-4-0 No 40463 was built at Derby works in August 1895 and was to remain in service until August 1956 when it was withdrawn from Bournville shed to be scrapped at Derby works soon afterwards.
