Birmingham New Street - Southern Approaches: lnwrbhm_sa2314a

Close up showing a steam locomotive standing on one of the roads adjacent to the cattle loading dock

Close up of image 'lnwrbhm_sthn_app2314' showing a steam locomotive standing on one of the roads adjacent to the cattle loading dock. The viaduct seen on the left is the long abandoned GWR structure which was supposed to have carried traffic to and from Bordesley to Curzon Street as part of the GWR's route to Birmingham. The signal post on the left has three short arms, each controlling access into one of the three roads at the entrance to Banbury Wharf from which a total of ten sidings were accessed. The photographer was standing in the Grand Junction signal cabin which stood almost above the bridge carrying the railway over Lawley Street. In the bottom right hand corner is a '25' sign (seen in reverse). The arrow is pointing to our right indicating the the speed for the diverging line to Gloucester is limited to 25 miles per hour.
