Looking towards Coventry from the Birmingham end of the down
platform showing the passenger footbridge and the trailing crossover. The two
different styles of the station buildings can be seen. Whilst superficially
similar there are detailed differences such as the canopies and chimneys. The
up platform was built at a later date than the down and therefore the
substantial chimneys were replaced by cast-iron stoves and flues. The canopy on
the down platform has its roof sloping towards the track and has a more
elaborate and decorate fascia. The up platform however has a roof with a more
pronounced slope but this time its away from the track whilst its fascia is a
simplified version of that seen on the down platform. The station was lit by
oil lamps which were positioned in glass 'boxes' cantilevered from the top of a
post.
