Ex-LNWR 2F 0-6-2T No 27575 has just run bunker first from the coaling plant before it poses before the camera in April 1936. Built at Crewe in September 1881 No 27575 is still two years away from being scrapped as it was withdrawn in December 1938. First introduced in 1881 they were originally intended to undertake goods and shunting duties. After being pressed into service in an emergency at peak periods it was found that they were very suitable for local passenger train work too. Their braking power was inadequate and this further encouraged their use on passenger rather than goods traffic.
