British Railway 8P 4-6-2 No 46202 'Princess Anne' passes Tamworth's water tower on a down express service

British Railway 8P 4-6-2 No 46202 'Princess Anne' passes Tamworth's water tower on a down express service shortly before it was involved in the Harrow Wealdstone accident on 8th October 1952. The locomotive was originally built in June 1935 by Crewe works as the experimental 4-6-2 'Turbomotive' locomotive which was withdrawn in March 1952. In its rebuilt form it was a cross between a Princess, having the chassis and boiler of the Princess class, and a Duchess, having the front end (cylinders) of the Coronation class. Emerging from Crewe works in its new form in August 1952 No 46202 had a tragically short working life being too badly damaged after the accident to be repaired.
