Ex-LMS 4-6-2 8P No 46247 'City of of Liverpool' approaches
the north end of Tamworth on 17th May 1948. Built in streamlined form by Crewe
works in September 1943, No 46247 has had its streamlining removed by the time
this photograph was taken but still retains the sloping smokebox, the latter
giving the de-streamlined members of the class the nickname 'semis'. The
locomotive remained in service for 19 years 9 months being withdrawn in June
1963 from 12A Kingmoor shed in Carlisle.
