LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth

LNWR 2P 4-4-0 Renown class No 1946 'Diadem' is seen
approaching Tamworth station at the head of a local Rugby to Stafford passenger
service circa 1923. First built as a member of the Benbow class in June 1901 at
Crewe works, No 1946 was rebuilt as a Renown class locomotive in October 1914.
In the late 1920s it was renumbered by the LMS as No 5138 and remained in
service until December 1931 when it was withdrawn from service to be scrapped
by Crewe works.
