View of the original station layout showing the station, goods yard and shed together with the level crossing and underpass. The goods shed was, following Trent Valley Railway standard practice, constructed at ninety degrees to the running line. Access to the shed was not by a siding directly leading to the shed but via wagon turntables which turned the wagon ninety degrees. Access from the down line was via siding which was on the opposite side of the main line to the shed and again used a wagon turntable to turn the wagon to be passes over the main line. Next to the main station station next to the lines to the shed are two short bays at forty-five degrees to the line. These bays were used for loading and unloading road vehicles.
