View looking towards Stafford with the level crossing carrying Watling Street over the railway with the original signal box on the left. As can be see, the original signal box was a more conventional structure to the one it was replaced by. The level crossing was replaced by a bridge during quadrupling of the line and finally resolved the issue between the LNWR and the County Council over the amount of time the crossing was closed and the subsequent disruption to traffic. The main station building and goods yard was to the right and behind the camera. C1900s
