LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Ex- LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 5217 'Knowsley' is in charge of a six-coach ordinary passenger train bound for Coventry circa 1932. The locomotive is approaching Adderley Park station on the Up Line. The photograph was taken from beneath the Bordesley Green Road overbridge, whilst the impressive building behind the train is the former Wolseley car factory. Built at Crewe as LNWR No 1114 in September 1905 the locomotive was renumbered by the LMS in October 1928 as No 5217 which it retained until withdrawn from service in February 1933.
