Building the last Main Line Railway
Catesby Tunnel and Viaduct: gcrcs81
Looking at the north end of Catesby tunnel,
Northamptonshire. The cutting still requires to widened to accomodate two
tracks whilst the embankments on both sides will need dressing back.
On the left the embankment appears to be covered in bricks
which would indicate that this was the point that the contractor transferred
the bricks in to the tunnel. The point work on the contractor's temporary track
was very primitive and would be moved by the use of a 'crowbar' rather than
levers.
