This view of the station was taken at the time of opening and is in pristine condition. There is little evidence of the staining of the ballast between the rails of both the main line and the refuge siding which is nearest to the camera. The refuge siding's buffer stop was located just below the road bridge whilst its junction with the main line was located near to the signal box to enable the signalman to supervise the proceedings.
