Another view of the loading of the Howitzer Battery by its
crew at the Army Ordnance Depot at Barby. As can be seen the gun and ammunition
carriage was made secure by chocking the wheels and fastening them with chains
and straps. This process would have to be supervised by the railway for safety
reasons which is what we presume the railway worker is doing.
The carriage at the rear of the wagons would be for the
transportation of the the soldiers. It is also probable that the horses that
were used to haul the Howitzer Battery would also be carried in horse boxes as
part of the same train. These would have been marshalled behind the
locomotive's tender in order to minimise the amount of jolting they would
receive when transported by loose coupled stock.
