Building the last Main Line Railway
Contractor's Builders Yards & Locomotives: gcrcs49
Contractors 0-6-0ST locomotive "Mersey" seen at work in the
cutting at Rugby. This locomotive has its water kept in the tank over the
boiler, hence its description 'saddle' tank. The absence of a bunker probably
indicates that the coal would be stored eitherside of the firebox behind the
square cab panel. Crews often used a one plank wagon fixed behind the cab to
act as a tender when the work load merited its use. C1897
