Building the last Main Line Railway
Rugby to Barby: gcrcs3b
This close up of image 'gcrcs3' shows one of the contractors
wagons and its open side which allowed for it tip side ways. The photograph
above appears to show a wooden trough presumably holding water for the horses.
There also appears to empty bags underneath which could have held their
feed.
The line of the railway would first have the turf removed
and then a 'temporary way', the contractors railway lines, would be laid along
the route. This work allowing the excavated material from cuttings to be
transported via the temporary way to be tipped to the area where an embankment
would be required. C1895
